# Immediate demotion: propose, approve, and execute in one step

The declared demotion (hotl to hitl) needs no review round-trip. demote generates canonical JSON evidence from its own arguments, content-addresses it, and inserts motion_proposed, motion_approved, and position_changed in one transaction. It refuses to run unless the current position equals the declared demotion source.
